Self recrimination of a sort, anyway. First, the apology. A couple of kind fellow bloggers have sent me links to their writing over the past two days, and a few have sent address changes. I apologize if I have not yet gotten to reading/linking what you sent or to fixing your address in my blogroll. The first is because I have been sort of overwhelmed with some “real life” happenings as well as my own blog-move. The second is because... Read more

Was in the emergency room again with Buster – because what is life if we don’t visit the ER every few months for fractures, suspected fractures, deeply embedded ticks and whatnot – this time because he’d slid into third base and somehow crashed into the other player. Both went down, with many moans and grabbing of knees. Everyone is fine, just banged up. But while we waited Buster and I spoke of many things, from school to girls, to his... Read more

A charge has been made that 11 men of varying ages, (none under 65) had their deaths helped along by being undernourished. A CORONER is demanding a public inquiry into claims that 11 hospital patients were deliberately starved to death. He believes that it could be Britain’s first case of forced “mass euthanasia”. Peter Ashworth, the coroner for Derby, will open an inquest later this year into the suspicious deaths at the city’s Kingsway hospital. He considers the matter so... Read more

Since today is 3 years since the very affecting funeral of John Paul II, thought I’d repost: An email from a reader:I’m asking this because I think you will answer me respectfully. The service today was beautiful but wasn’t it too much? Jesus was buried in a simple shroud, and he was God. What we saw today bordered on idolatry. I have no problems with Catholics, I do believe you are Christians, but I think you are misguided on this.... Read more

The story in the Washington Times says that Hillary Clinton – moving ever toward the center, at least in word, has said this:Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday that protecting the freedom to practice religion throughout the world is one of the most important missions of U.S. foreign and domestic policy. But the New York Democrat, in a speech last night on religious liberty and church-state relations, said that goal must include trying to “create a space for nonbelievers” as... Read more

At first I thought I would have loved to have live-blogged the funeral of Pope John Paul the Great, but it wasn’t necessary, was it? The images, the spontaneous outbursts of applause and cheering – it was most eloquent. But I did have a few thoughts: Today, an event occured which was witnessed by the whole world. A million people knelt in prayer on the cobblestone of St. Peter’s. Hundreds of thousands of people publicly received communion in this, the... Read more

5:20 AM I am so glad that CNN has John Allen. He really is excellent. And how reverent, now is this Liturgy of the Eucharist. 5:00 AM Not a bad homily from Ratzinger. I DO love all the chanting – particularly the chanting of the Gospel in Latin, and I thought the priest chanted it very well. I recall once visiting an Orthodox church, Latin rite, and pretty much the whole Mass was chanted. Between the icons, the chanting…for an... Read more

An excellent article in NRO by Carol Iannone, which details a film I have GOT to see, and talks about the sorts of priests we need, too./ Read more

You have probably read it already, but if you haven’t go read her assessment on JPII’s part in bringing down communism. Then, I have linked to this already, back when I was live-blogging last weekend, but if you missed it you really MUST read it. Noonan’s very moving and exceedingly well-written piece on a a papal audience she attended ‘way back in 2002. It’s an absolute gem.And this is NOT by Noonan, but by Susan Vigilante, and it’s a small,... Read more

Thomas Lifson at The American Thinker serves up a very troubling story complete with links for further reading. On March 18th, a shocking crime took place in Berkeley, California, at a spot famous for sweeping Bay views, distinguished architecture, and the genteel atmosphere that wealthy “progressives” create for themselves. An elderly woman, walking home with her husband from an extension class at the University of California, was grabbed from behind by a young woman who had just walked past her... Read more
