There are so many kinds of taco dip recipes out there. All you have to do is an Internet search My mother always made a taco dip for various occasions and church functions. It was her most requested appetizer. Some people had even asked for the recipe. The following is the fan favorite.
Ingredients:
Base ingredients:
1 cup to half cup of sour cream
1 jar of your choice of salsa
8 0z. Cream cheese (softened)
Toppings:
Shredded lettuce – iceberg works best
Shredded cheese – cheddar or Mexican blend
Diced tomatoes
Nacho/taco chips
For the base:
- Beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer. Make sure to soften the cream cheese a few hours before beating or put in the microwave for at least 30-40 seconds if you are short on time.
- Add sour cream and your salsa and mix well. (You can substitute the sour cream with plain yogurt. You can also substitute salsa with taco seasoning or add in addition to.)
- Add the mixture to the bottom of a dish.
- After adding to the dish, you can chill in the refrigerator or add all ingredients and then chill. The process is up to you.
For the toppings:
Layer with lettuce, shredded cheese and diced tomatoes. You can also add other toppings of your choice including black olives, green onions, etc.
Make sure to test your cream cheese mix by tasting it with a spoon or using the taco chips of your choice that you will serve on the side.
