Nobody Cares, and That’s a Good Thing

Nobody Cares, and That’s a Good Thing February 16, 2022

Do you worry about what others think about you? Are you crippled with fear that others may judge you for a careless word or action? How about your choice of clothing? Do you fear others will comment on your appearance?

I am here to comfort you with a reality that may come off as harsh to some, but its truth means liberation to all. That truth is this: nobody cares enough to think about you at all. Now, I’m not saying that no one loves you or that others don’t hold deep concern for your wellbeing. I’m saying that no one thinks about, let alone obsesses over, your actions. Humans are not wired that way. Let me explain.

Do You Care?

What do you care about? Do you spend your day obsessing over the behavior of others? Even if offended, do you spend the rest of your day wallowing in that offense, or do you move on to other, more significant things? Moreover, how often do you think of another person’s hair, clothes, or words they speak? Like me, most of what you see and hear goes into a trash folder in your brain. Our brains can only hold so much. I’m sorry, but your fashion decisions and offhand comments do not make the cut for my full attention. Like you, I have better and more productive things to do with my time.

The Power of Nobody

Why give others power over your emotional wellbeing when nobody cares? I tell my kids not to worry about what other kids at school think of them because, most likely, those kids don’t think about them at all. Furthermore, worrying about what others think gives others power they don’t even know they have. It is better to assume no one thinks about you. In this truth, one finds the liberation from the power of nobody.

Somebody Who Truly Cares

Now, there is Somebody who does care a great deal about you. He knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30). He looked at your substance unformed in your mother’s womb and the fashion of your life (Psalms 139:16-17). His plans are good for you, not evil. He desires for you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). Finally, He loves you so much that He sent His Son into the world to save you (John 3:16). The second person of the divine Trinity forever took on human flesh because of His love of you. He did so to save you from sin and death (Romans 6:22).

We waste our lives in fear of what others think. We also forget God’s thoughts of forgiveness, hope, and love towards us. These thoughts took the form of action in Jesus Christ. I pray you break free from the power of nobody and embrace the power and liberation of Somebody who cares.

Here is a great YouTube video by The School Of Life about this topic.
