Jesus “Banned” from Twitter

Jesus “Banned” from Twitter April 23, 2022

Would Jesus’ comments on gender and sex get Him banned from Twitter for “hate speech?” Would Jesus find Himself in the same situation as the Babylon Bee for affirming the reality of biological sex? And before you excuse Jesus as a byproduct of His time, know that Christians believe Jesus the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Jesus On Sex and Gender

Below are verses that show Jesus’ view of gender/sex.

He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4-6 [emphasis mine]

But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Mark 10:6-9 [emphasis mine]

Jesus believes in the gender/sex binary. God only created “them” male and female. These male and females leave their “fathers” and “mothers.” With the words of Jesus, we see no “spectrum.” In holding such views on gender/sex, Jesus would find Himself banned from Twitter.

Jesus On Sins (Including Sexual Sins)

In our current culture, people personally identify with sexual acts traditionally considered sinful. This includes homosexuality and bisexuality (the LGB in the LGBYQ acronym). Therefore, those who do not affirm and celebrate said people are labelled bigots. So, if I do not support actions Jesus declares sinful, and these action are now intrinsically part of another individual, I am by default prejudice. What of Jesus? Are his views of sexuality also bigoted and prejudiced?

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. Matthew 15:19

As a first century Jew, Jesus’ view of sexual immorality did include both homosexual and bisexual behavior. Such acts violated God’s Law. Sexual immorality also included fornication (sex outside of marriage). Notice adultery is listed separately. Some, like Bart Ehrman, argue that Jesus here refers to sex performed as pagan ritual prostitution, but this is merely conjecture on his part. Jesus did not come to abolish the Law and Prophets but to fulfil them (Matthew 5:17). For His declaration as “evil” what is now “intrinsic” human nature, Jesus is banned from Twitter.

This fact should give all who claim the name Christian (of Christ) pause. If Jesus is banned, what of those who attempt to faithfully follow Him on social media? They too may find themselves banned.
