Petition To The USCCB To Put An End to “Pride Masses”

“Pride Mass” at All Saints in Syracuse, NY.

The main responsibility of Catholic Bishops is to shepherd souls. Such a responsibility requires clarity and charity in guiding the faithful in truth. “Pride Masses” endorse lifestyles and ideologies contrary to consistent Catholic moral teaching on human sexuality and marriage. Furthermore, the confusion caused by such “Masses” scandalize the faithful and put souls at risk.

The USCCB MUST put a stop to such scandal!

Please consider signing a petition I posted on CitizenGO.

The Petition

Your Excellencies,

We, the undersigned faithful lay Catholics of the United States, approach you, our revered shepherds, with profound respect and filial devotion to express our grave concerns regarding the practice of “Pride Masses” being held within Catholic dioceses across our nation. We write to you as the collective body entrusted with guiding the faithful, upholding the integrity of the sacred liturgy, and consistently proclaiming Catholic truth throughout the United States.

We unequivocally affirm the Church’s teaching that all persons, without exception, are created in the image and likeness of God and deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, compassion, and sensitivity, as articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2358). We embrace the call to charity and welcome for every individual.

However, the designation and character of “Pride Masses,” particularly when celebrated in conjunction with or appearing to endorse secular “Pride Month” events, introduces significant confusion and scandal among the faithful. These Masses can inadvertently lead to a widespread misunderstanding that the Church is implicitly affirming behaviors and lifestyles that are contrary to perennial Catholic moral teaching. The Holy Mass is the re-presentation of Christ’s sacrifice, the source and summit of our faith (CCC 1324), and its sacred character demands that it not be associated with or instrumentalized for purposes that may obscure or contradict the fullness of Catholic doctrine regarding human sexuality and marriage.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church explicitly states that “Homosexual acts are contrary to the natural law. They close the act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved” (CCC 2357). Furthermore, the Church upholds marriage as an exclusive and indissoluble union between one man and one woman, ordered towards procreation and the education of offspring (CCC 1601, 1603).

When Masses are explicitly labeled “Pride Masses” or otherwise seem to celebrate or affirm aspects of “Pride” that contradict these fundamental and unchanging teachings, they risk:

  • Confusing the Faithful: Causing many to believe that the Church’s moral teachings on sexuality have changed or are no longer binding, or that dissent from these teachings is acceptable.
  • Causing Scandal: Leading others, both within and outside the Church, into moral error or cynicism regarding the Church’s integrity and consistency.
  • Undermining True Pastoral Care: Authentic pastoral care always guides individuals toward repentance, conversion, and a life lived in conformity with God’s will, which includes embracing the Church’s teachings on chastity for all states of life.

Therefore, with deep reverence for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and unwavering fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, we humbly yet urgently petition the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to:

Issue clear, unified guidance to all dioceses within the United States directing that Masses not be celebrated under the designation of “Pride Masses” or any similar nomenclature that suggests an endorsement of lifestyles or ideologies contrary to consistent Catholic moral teaching on human sexuality and marriage.

We implore you to ensure that all liturgical celebrations across the nation unequivocally reflect the fullness of Catholic truth and serve solely as opportunities to draw all souls closer to Christ in accordance with His divine plan for humanity. We earnestly request comprehensive and unified catechesis that upholds both the dignity of every person and the unchanging moral teachings of the Church, particularly concerning chastity and the sanctity of marriage.

We pray for your collective wisdom and fortitude in shepherding the faithful throughout the United States according to the mind of Christ and His Holy Church.

Respectfully and with fidelity to Christ and His Church,

Your Faithful Flock

Thank you!
