What is the appeal of atheism? As a Catholic Christian, I understand the appeal of Catholic Christianity.
For example:
- Meaning and purpose to the universe.
- Meaning and purpose for the individual.
- A world that is not reduced to the merely material.
- Object truth.
- Object morality.
- Objective love.
- Eternal life.
- Eternal justice.
As one who dialogues with atheists, below are what I think atheists find appealing about atheism:
- No worry about a final judgement for “sinful” behavior.
- Meaning is found in wherever one wants it to be found.
- Do “good” things, not because some God will send you to hell, but because it is “right.”
- Focus on “real-world” problems because this is the only world/universe there is.
- One is “stronger” minded and does not need some sort of “fantasy” world, just the world that is.
- No waste of time and energy trying to conform to the myriad of religious beliefs.
An Appeal for the Best Arguments for Atheism
Moreover, I may be mistaken. Any honest atheist who wishes to put forth their best argument for their position, please feel free. Please put your arguments in the comment section below. I will then post my response to each argument in separate entries, as to not bury them in the comments section. If you do post, please indicate if I have permission to cite you in those articles. No trolls.
Cheers!
