Yesterday was pretty normal.  I went to work at the church (I am serving part time until I finish seminary) and then had a dentist appointment.  But, as I read many of the comments and emails from all of you yesterday, something became evident: You are all concerned about my health and eating practices. As you know if you read my first post in this series, I am picky… quite picky.  But, inspired by your concern and that of my... Read more

The past couple of days have felt dizzy and busy.  I missed my post yesterday and simply want to say that things are starting to get real. My biggest concern is that I am not getting as much protein as I probably need.  This is something I will need to be quite aware of. Well, I know this one may seem short.  Just so you know, expect one journal entry each week that is more in depth and others that... Read more

As you know, I defended Rob as not a universalist from the beginning of the controversy. Based on his interview (still, having not read the book) here are my thoughts… Rob has a big vision of God’s love and grace.  He is convinced that God is not primarily a God of wrath, but of love and restoration. He does believe in Hell, but certainly not eternal punishment.  Rob seems to be quite influenced, as I predicted, by CS Lewis in... Read more

Water.  Peanut butter.  Water.  Water.  Peanut butter.  Water.  Water. This pattern is consistent on almost a daily basis. Because I am not a big fan of beans, my default source of protein is the sticky, icky, ooey, gooey, paste of thickness of PB.  I like it, well at least in week one.  But large quantities are causing me to need to drink about 2 glasses of water for every one PB & J tortilla wrap. Good news –... Read more

Yesterday was pretty much a normal day.  I had an appointment in the morning and spent the rest of the day studying. 2 realizations… 1) Studying at Starbucks sucks when it doesn’t involve a cup of coffee. 2) Peanut butter is going to get old as my source of protein. So, in the midst of studying I felt hunger growls and urges for food.  Resistance is what I must continue to choose.  I wonder if I will get over the... Read more

I am convinced that both the left and right in our political system stink at balancing the budget.  Here is a video that gives the best answer to the problem, using Oreo cookies.   What are your thoughts on this video?  What about the larger theory the video represents? Read more

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Those are the words that were spoken over me by the priest, at the beautiful Anglican church my small group visited, as he administered the ash on my forehead last night. “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” photo © 2006 Sarah (Rosenau) Korf | more info (via: Wylio)   As I sat in a new setting, a setting that really was anything but new,... Read more

Recently there was a provocative article written by Phil Zuckerman and Dan Cady called: Why Evangelicals Hate Jesus. It would be easy for many to be up in arms about such an article, but maybe it takes a critique from the ‘outside’ to make us look honestly at our ‘inside.’ They state: “White Evangelical Christians are the group least likely to support politicians or policies that reflect the actual teachings of Jesus. It is perhaps one of the strangest, most... Read more

I am picky. I hate most foods that could be considered healthy. In college, I ate Panda Express (Chinese fast food) for dinner almost every night and supplemented other meals with burgers and pizza. As a child, I would sit at my Grandpa’s dinner table for hours because I refused to eat my veggies. My most consumed meal during childhood: cereal.  Count Chocula was not just breakfast, but sometimes dinner.  And if I ran out of milk, no problem… water.... Read more
