About

Tom Whittaker teaches history at LeTourneau University in East Texas. Although very much a historian, he is also deeply interested in exploring the world of contemporary Christian life, practice, politics, and theology in the United States and around the world, especially in the complicated, conflicted network of churches and institutions that go by the name “evangelical.”

He is trained as an American religious historian, with a PhD in the Study of Religion from Harvard University, an MA from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and a BA from the University of Chicago. Tom was born in England and immigrated to the US as a child, and has, now, broadly speaking, managed to live in every region of the country. He enjoys roadtrips with his wife and three young kids, introducing students to the study of history, and watching San Diego Padres baseball.
