I Was the Administrator

Where were you, He asked me, when my little ones came to you, broken, bruised, violated?

I was the Administrator, I replied. I did what was best for the school.

Where were you, He asked me, when their hands were shaking and clenched, their breaths tight and hard in their chest, and you chided them for their emotion?

I was the Administrator, I replied. I had to keep them under control.

Where were you, He asked me, when they bore their souls to you, shared with you the most terrible moments of their lives, and you ignored them?

I was the Administrator, I replied. I showed them that they held the knife that stabbed them, that their wounds were self-inflicted.

Where were you, He asked me, when I shone out through their eyes, begged for your help through My voice, stood before you on shaking limbs, with body, mind, soul broken and used?

I stopped.

I…was the Administrator, I feebly replied, the light that blazed about His throne shining to blinding brilliance and burning me. I didn’t see You in them.

Then be gone from Me, He replied, the ground giving way beneath me and swallowing me in its maw. For I never knew you.
