Iraq’s Persecuted: How You Can Help Right Now

Iraq’s Persecuted: How You Can Help Right Now August 15, 2014

The Knights of Columbus, kofc.org, recently committed $1,000,000 of humanitarian aid in support of Iraq’s many endangered religious minorities, particularly its targeted Christian one, who now face “unprovoked and systematic persecution,” dislocation, and possible extinction. The organization is seeking $500,000 in public donations and has pledged that 100% of every dollar raised will be used to provide direct relief and support.

Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, in solidarity with Pope Francis’ call to both prayer and support, has made the call: “It has shocked the conscience of the world that people are systematically being purged from the region where their families have lived for millennia – simply for their faith. It is imperative that we stand in solidarity with them in defense of the freedom of conscience, and provide them with whatever relief we can.”

The news media’s lack of attention and sympathy notwithstanding, war crimes are being committed on a daily basis. Prayers are necessary. Loud vocal opposition is imperative. But financial support is also critical. It’s one small way that we can help right now.
