Let’s not trade eternal truths for quick fixes, nor deliberation for enmity.

Let’s not turn to that which divides us, nor to those that would exploit it.

Truth is not hidden, nor complex, nor subjective, even as it can be disguised, and dressed-up, and misdirected, and bled.

And foundations built upon animus, of the one against the other, will only crash and burn and be swept away.

It’s not as if God compels us to choose between either black or white, or even some bland gray.

No, our eyes, our hearts, our minds, our spirit, are infused with His creativity and His love, and an expectation that we will strive, with mercy and compassion – however many times we falter – to hear and receive the truth.

This is critical.

This is why we are here.

The true solutions are not those which we force upon life in accordance with our theories, but those which life itself provides for those who dispose themselves to receive the truth.

Consequently our task is to dissociate ourselves from all who have theories which promise clear-cut and infallible solutions, and to mistrust all such theories, not in a spirit of negativism and defeat, but rather trusting life itself, and nature, and if you will permit me, God above all.

For since man has decided to occupy the place of God he has shown himself to be by far the blindest, and cruelest, and pettiest and most ridiculous of all the false gods. Thomas Merton, The Behavior of Titans, 1961.

Let’s not seek to replace the eternal with self-made, false, delusional comforts.

Peace
