If the Emergent Church Were Battlestar Gallactica

So, I’m currently living my own version of a Portlandia sketch, watching as many episodes of Battlestar Gallactica per day as I can without losing my job or getting my electricity shut off. I’m just about to complete season three (SO DON’T TELL ME HOW IT ENDS!!!).

And, it occurs to me that the typologies present in the show’s characters are quite applicable to the Emergent Church Movement, another fleet of renegade survivors.

Brian McLaren as Admiral Adama: Wise, whispery leader who often takes chances on people he shouldn’t.

Doug Pagitt as Helo: Tall warrior who doesn’t obey rules most of the time but usually picks the right side.

Steve Knight as Mr. Gata: Technical whiz kid who once worked for the other side.

Nadia Bolz-Weber as Kara “Starbuck” Thrace: Tattooed ace pilot who’s has a potty mouth and often gets in trouble with authority.

Tim Keel as Lee “Apollo” Adama: Favorite son who left Gallactica for Pegasus, only to return.
