My brother, Ted, is a practicing attorney and a law prof, and he calls Lawrence Lessig the greatest law professor of a generation.  And Lessig has posted a thoughtful 20-minute endorsement of Obama. Read more

What an interesting night last night.  Doug called on the way to the DFL caucus to say that the line of cars stretched from the middle school a half-mile to the highway and onto the highway for a quarter mile.  In MN, the caucuses are only open for voting for 90 minutes — from 6:30-8pm — and if you’re not in line by 8, you’re SOL.  Well, I took some back roads with no traffic, and it’s really no trouble... Read more

I’ve got a bit of Tennessee in my blood this month.  Last week I visited Belmont University in Nashville where I was warmly hosted by the University Ministries staff (thanks Guy, Kristy, and Micah!).  I am learning more about how to interact with undergraduate audiences, and hopefully I’m getting better at it.  That is to say, it’s not always my best crowd.  But Belmont was awesome.  The students were thoughtful and engaged, and they piped right up when I left... Read more

The New Christians excerpt of the week is over on Shawn Landres’s Synablog.  It’s my reflection on the beautiful gathering that some emergent Christian and emergent Jewish leaders had a couple years ago. Ben Parsons, a dude in Seattle, has sampled my voice from an old National Youth Workers Convention recording on a track he mixed. My lines: “in a particular time, in a particular place, in a particular body.” “we are embedded in a particular time in a particular place in a particular body…that shapes how we see things like ‘the truth.’” “I don’t come here as some objective knower who is, like, separate from who I am.” For a limited time,... Read more

I am a political independent.  And fiercely so.  I’ve voted for a couple Republicans and a couple Democrats and lots of Independents, including, proudly, Jesse “The Body” Ventura.  At the state level, most recently, I voted for a Republican state senator (Geoff Michel), a Republican congressman (Jim Ramstad), and a Democratic U.S. senator (Amy Klobuchar). But I am supporting Barack Obama for president. Why? Because Obama has so many of the qualities that we need in a president. He is... Read more
