A Song For The Jewish Community

A Song For The Jewish Community January 12, 2024

Jewish people are an ethnic and religious group that originated in the Middle East over 3,500 years ago. They are generally viewed as individuals who follow the Jewish faith and/or are descendants of other Jewish people. Judaism happens to be one of the oldest religions in the world! However, Jewish people have also faced persecution and discrimination throughout history, most notably during the Holocaust. In the present day, society seems to have regressed back into having a biased resentment towards them. This resentment is often referred to as engaging in Anti-Semitic behavior. This behavior is a form of a hate crime. Hate crimes are criminal offenses that are motivated by prejudice or discrimination against a particular group of people. Hate crimes can take many forms, including physical violence, harassment, and intimidation. They not only harm the individual victim but also create fear and anxiety within the entire community.

Israel, a Troubled Land.

Since the recent Israel and Palestine conflict, there has been rioting, ethnically provoked attacks, and racial slurs continue to grow towards the Jewish community. From violent crimes in the streets to violent discrimination at Ivy League colleges, it seems that it is harder than ever to be a Jewish person in America today. In 2023, famous singer and businessman Kanye West, also known as Ye, used his various platforms to verbally attack Jewish people. He spewed various rhetoric about Jews owning so many production companies in Hollywood. Ye stated on the controversial Alex Jones podcast that he in fact admired Adolf Hitler. Comedian Dave Chappelle confirmed some of Wests claims about Jewish people. Chapelle stated shortly after West’s unfounded rants, that whenever there are all Jewish people in one company you are not supposed to question it.

Words Matter.

Since the conflict between Israel and Palestine, there have been droves of social media postings, protesting and violent events primarily directed at Jewish people. Why are we regressing and replicating little by little Hitler’s Germany? It is not all Jewish peoples fault that West doesn’t like Hollywood anymore. It is not every Jewish person’s fault that there are conflicts in other countries as there have always been. Is this just an excuse to harm a group that people may have already had prejudice towards? For those of us who are not Jewish, we cannot be naive to think we are safe from random hate crimes. What is happening to the Jews in America can also happen to any ethnic group. If we do not stand up for others there may be no one left to stand up for us.
