A few years ago, a band that I was in had the privilege of playing a show in New York City along with Rev. Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping, the star of and mastermind behind an upcoming documentary called What Would Jesus Buy? The documentary, out this week from what I understand, is produced by Morgan Spurlock, who directed and starred in Super-Size Me.
Rev. Billy was brilliant when I saw him “live,” giving a sermon by himself in between the musical acts — mostly loud, screamy hardcore/metal bands. And he’s only gotten more brilliant in the last few years, staging “exorcisms” at Starbucks and Victoria’s Secret locations in New York City, and taking his “Stop Shopping Choir” across the country for more elaborate stage shows.
