Slide Show of my Photos from the Papal Mass

Slide Show of my Photos from the Papal Mass April 20, 2008

I know it is a few days late. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do to present my photos, since there were so many. Last night I decided to make a slide show out of them. While I often do special effects with my videos, I thought the best thing here was to let the pictures present themselves. There are a few I took which didn’t make it into the show, but most, even the bad ones, got their place in it. Only a couple really bad ones and a couple others didn’t make it.

  • The only caveat I have to say – the pictures have lost a lot of their quality by being shrunk down for the video, and then having been uploaded to youtube. Their resolution is much better than what you can see here, as you probably have seen from the photos I put up here in my other posts.

    Henry– what is the music?

    Henry– what is the music?

  • Bill: Thanks. I hope many people find something enjoyable in it.

MM: The music is from Garmarna’s Hildegard CD. They are a Swedish folk-metal-techno band; their last major CD (that I know of) was all adaptations of music by Hildegard. Their penultimate album also had an adaptation of Euchari, but with more of a darker /more metal edge. I thought using a song in Latin with a modern twist would fit best with the pictures.

I originally heard a sample of the song Gamen. Like many of their songs it was an adaptation of a dark Nordic folktale, so its sensibilities are not necessarily mine, but it has an edge which I still like in it (I admit, I like a variety of music from classical to folk metal like Gamen). If anyone wants to listen to the song, and read the lyrics, it can be found on youtube here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LExEHAftbOk Not all of their music is so heavy as this song; the CD Gamen is from was the “heaviest” they got, although they always had an edge, even in their more folkish songs.

I have to admit their Hildegard CD is one of the oddest of the bunch, yet it somehow works despite the chaos in it. Perhaps because Hildegard herself was like that in her music — for its time.

Finally, if anyone is interested and liked the music on this and/or Gamen, here is also what is available on youtube:

Herr Holger (another heavy song) http://youtube.com/watch?v=pjmq6KI0D_o
Vanner Och Frander http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ufnnr_q1yfE more folkish, but with an edge
En Gång Ska Han Gråta http://youtube.com/watch?v=GbnmWcrmQYQ live, between the top two in style
    Euchari (the older version) http://youtube.com/watch?v=vIC_SNtYpxQ
Den Bortsalda http://youtube.com/watch?v=1fUPpXxhrvE not as heavy (but the lyrics clearly show its medieval Nordic side, but one must remember the point is adaptation of such pieces into modern time)

And yes, my music tastes go over all the place.
