Earlier this week Marvel released the first trailer for the rebooted Fantastic Four movie that will introduce Marvel’s First Family to the MCU. There has been a lot of buzz about this movie since the team is considered a bedrock comic for the company.
My passion for comic books and superhero stories began when I was in high school. I was a nerdy geek who didn’t play sports but enjoyed reading to escape the reality of my lack of physical abilities. There is a reason why superhero movies are a big draw to the box office these days:
- Entertainment
- Hope
- Inspiration
I believe the popularity of superhero movies is growing because a lot of people have become more aware that we live in a dark broken world and we are powerless ourselves to do anything, much less save it (Isaiah 43:11, Hebrews 5:9.) The more we look at this world, the clearer it becomes that time is running out for it.
As I write this diseases like measles and bird flu are either making people sick, killing them, or scaring others to death. I believe both churched and unchurched people are becoming more aware that this world is going to end.
Whether you are a Marvel or a DC fan, you have been introduced to alternate timelines and universes in recent years. The crazy thing is every timeline and universe is broken and needs to be saved before they end. The Bible tells us that this isn’t fiction, but the reality is only the Alpha and Omega can save us (Isaiah 44:6, Revelation 1:8.)
Alpha And Omega
Most of us are familiar with the Greek term alpha and Omega and we understand this.
The biblical term isn’t science fiction, but a spiritual truth about the nature and being of God (Revelation 1: 8; 22:13.)
Alpha and Omega are defined as, “Beginning and the end.” The Greek phrase refers to the first letter and the last letters in the Greek alphabet; spiritually this term refers to the beginning and the end of time and everything in between.
A simple understanding is all things begin at some point and will end at some point in time because the creation is finite, meaning creation has limitations and will cease to exist at some point.
Biblically God is understood to be infinite because only He existed before the creation of everything and already exists in our future when everything ends (John 1:1-3.) The creation will end at some point no matter what we do.
This is why God’s people should focus on the Kingdom of God and heaven instead of temporary greatness and temporary happiness; these are finite and will not stand the test of time. This world and its treasures will pass away.
It is useless to chase temporary happiness and greatness because no one knows the future except God (2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Philippians 3:7-8, Colossians 3:2, 1 Timothy 6:9-10, 1 John 2:15-17.) The apostles remembered their Jewish education about the beginning and the end.
Aleph And Tav
Not only are Alpha and Omega the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, but their Hebrew equivalents are also, however, the Hebrew has deeper implications. The Hebrew term is Aleph and Tav which includes both the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, but they also encompass every letter in between from the first, Aleph to the last Tav.
The Aleph (first) represents God and the Tav (last) is symbolic of an enclosure or a Holy place where God is; Temple, garden, or Heaven. The Torah states that everything begins with God, He creates everything in existence and then everything ends with God in the holiest place.
The Torah beautifully explains this as the creation story since God was there before everything else (Genesis 1:1-2:4, Job 38:4, Psalm 33 6; 82:1, Proverbs 8:23.) The creation story explains how God created creation and set the boundaries of time.

- Sun, Moon, and stars
- Sea creatures and birds
- Land animals and humans
- Rest
In the creation story, we see God’s creation of time and how He marks out the beginning and the end. In the fourth gospel story of the New Testament, Jesus is described as the Word made flesh and we are told that the Word was with God in the beginning (John 1:1-14.) The gospel also describes Jesus as the second Adam (Mark 1:12-13.)
Jesus taught His followers that He and God were One (John 5:30; 10:30.) The epistles also describe Jesus as the Alpha and Omega (Colossians 1:1:16, Revelation 1:1-17; 19:16; 21:6; 22:13.)
Jesus taught His disciples about the signs of the end of this world (Matthew 24:1-51.) One day this world will be destroyed.
Asteroid 2024 YR4
Late this week news broke about an increased risk of an asteroid hitting the earth. Although there is only a slight chance of impact, scientists are still monitoring it and evaluating the effects of a direct hit on the Earth.
If you are a science fanatic like me, you’re familiar with the theory of an asteroid hitting the earth and causing the extinction of dinosaurs. Whether it’s climate change, war, or an asteroid strike, more and more people are realizing this world will end one day.
The truth is ever since the fall in the garden this world has been doomed and dying (Genesis 3:24-27.) This temporary world will be destroyed because of the sins of man.
- Greed
- Deception
- Pride
Death is the end result of the decay that began in the garden (Genesis 3:19, Ecclesiastes 12:7, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22.) This fallen world and its lusts will end (1 John 2:15-17.)
The good news is we don’t have to trust science, fictional superheroes, politicians, or religion to save us. We can prepare for the end by placing our hope and faith in Jesus alone (Romans 8:24-25, Hebrews 6:19.) That is why we can only trust the Aleph And Tav!
