How Does El Hanne’eman Connect Plane crashes and Hostages? February 2, 2025

The news has been inundated with the tragedies of two horrific plane crashes in the United States. These were the first domestic plane crashes in the United States in well over a decade. The first was a tragic plane crash in the Washington DC area.

The second crash happened Friday evening in clear weather in North Philadelphia. I am not trying to get political over these tragic events; I just want to focus on the hard truth of living in a fallen world.

  • Death comes for us all
  • We will face trials and hardships
  • This life is temporary

One of the comments I have heard this week repeatedly is where is God? I was quickly reminded about the days following 9/11 and how many reacted to those hateful and evil acts of terrorism. Suffering is part of living in a fallen world.

Just like almost 24 years ago, we need to keep those who lost loved ones in our prayers. We must never forget God is with us in the hard times of life (Psalm 9:9; 46:1, Isaiah 41:10.) And most importantly we need to never forget that God is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9.)

What is faithful?

Faithful is defined as, “Steadfast in affection or allegiance; loyal.” Faithfulness is a quality we look for in our human relationships. Spouses strive to be faithful to each other.

Politicians and law enforcement vow to be faithful to the Constitution. The problem is both politicians and police officers are both human and fallible. Despite what some religious people believe, even Christians have a sinful nature that can lead them astray (Romans 3:10, James 3:2, 1 John 2:4.)

The Good News is there is One who is always faithful and closer than a friend (Matthew 28:20, John 15:13-15, James 4:8.) Regardless of who a person is, they have the potential to let you down. God is both sinless and perfect, we can trust His faithfulness (Romans 8:28, 1 Corinthians 1:9; 10:13, 2 Thessalonians 3:3, 2 Timothy 2:13.  The Apostle Paul remembered his Jewish education about God’s faithfulness.

El Hanne’eman

We must remember that the ancient world was dark and people bowed to and worshiped false gods. These false idols couldn’t save an ant on a piece of candy. God’s people were commanded to worship the one true God of Israel only (Exodus 20:3, Deuteronomy 6:4.)

God sent true prophets to test the false prophets and their idols (Joshua 24:15, 1 Kings 18:20-40.) God defeated the false idols and prophets and delivered Israel from harm time and time again. Israel often prospered because of God while the world suffered, because their God is faithful.

One of the Hebrew names Israel gave God is El Hanne’eman and it means, “The faithful God.” It is based on one of the many attributes of God in Judaism.

  1. All-powerful
  2. Compassionate
  3. Gracious
  4. Long-suffering
  5. Slow to anger
  6. Kind
  7. Forgiving
  8. Merciful
  9. Faithful

The promised Messiah will embody all of the attributes of God according to Judaism (Psalm 2:6-7, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2.) Jesus often taught about the faithfulness of God to His people (Matthew 6:30-34; 10:26-31, Luke 12:6-7, John 10:27-30.)

Jesus in the storm

The Bible often describes Jesus as being faithful (Hebrews 10:23; 13:8, Revelation 1:5.) Jesus also displayed mercy and compassion for the least of these (Matthew 19:36; 14:14, Mark 6:34.)

God is faithful to all who belong to Him and will help them in His way and in His time (Job 11:7-9, Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 55:8.)

Hostage Release

This weekend news broke of more hostages released that have been captives of Hamas since the October 7th attack 16 months ago. Many hostages and their family members didn’t think they would ever see each other again. After a year and a half, God answered their prayers.

They forgot God is faithful. They forgot God’s timing isn’t like ours (Psalm 27:14, Ecclesiastes 3:1, limitations 3:25-26, Habakkuk 2:3.) Just because God doesn’t always answer prayer when and how we want doesn’t mean He isn’t faithful, it just means we need to keep putting our faith in Him and not ourselves or our government.  Because God is faithful we can endure hardships in this life.

  • War
  • Famine
  • Natural disasters
  • Tragedies
  • Death

This world is temporary and we will all face trials on this side of Heaven (Matthew 5:10-12, John 16:33, 1 Peter 4:12-13.) Like our Jewish forefathers, we still live in a dark and fallen world. God is still faithful to be with us regardless of what path we are on in life.

In His perfect time everything will make sense (2 Corinthians 6:1-18, Galatians 4:4.) In every season we can trust El Hanne’eman!
