Last Days in the Desert, directed by Rodrigo Garcia and starring Ewan McGregor (as both Jesus and Satan), is one of the most interesting religiously themed films I’ve seen in the last few years. In fact, it’s everything that “Christian movies” are typically not: artistic, challenging, provocative. It’s a film for Christians who’d rather watch a Terrence Malick flick than God’s Not Dead; for Christians who don’t need to agree with a film to enjoy it and talk about it.
Alas, Last Days in the Desert—out on DVD tomorrow, Aug. 2—didn’t generate enough interest to warrant a wide release, which means that not a lot of people saw this beautiful, difficult movie.
But now, thanks to the film’s producers, you have a chance to check it out for yourself. I have a couple of copies of Last Days in the Desert that I’d like to give away to two lucky readers. Here’s all you have to do:
Contact me through Twitter (@AsayPaul) or e-mail ([email protected]) and tell me your favorite movie featuring Jesus (if you tweet, use the hashtag #BestMovieJesus). He doesn’t necessarily have to be the featured player in the movie, a la The Passion of the Christ. You never even really see Jesus in the 1959 Ben-Hur, but it’d count.
Winners will be selected at random from these submissions: I’m not going to dock anyone for selecting, say, The Life of Brian. Submissions will officially close Aug. 5, and I’ll contact the winners (via e-mail or Twitter) sometime early next week.
And, while you’re waiting, feel free to read my interview with the film’s director, Rodrigo Garcia. He’s a pretty interesting guy.
Good luck!
