Becket (1964)
We skip past England’s legendary kings of yore (sorry, Excalibur and Monty Python fans) and leap into a time when the tiny island nation of England was still in its infancy, right around 1170. King Henry II was turning the island nation of England into a continental force, letting nothing stand in his way … including the Catholic Church. Standing in his way was his old friend Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. The movie earned acting nods for both Peter O’Toole (Henry) and Richard Burton (Becket), and it’s still a classic. You can see why in this clip.
