A Tomato Goes Upside-Down (As Seen on TV) and a Buffalo Squeezes Through a Latticed Window

A Tomato Goes Upside-Down (As Seen on TV) and a Buffalo Squeezes Through a Latticed Window May 19, 2008

You may have seen this on cable too – it’s my birthday present from my parents and is now hanging on the deck. Right side up is upside down for the usual planter. The planter is filled with soil, water goes in the top, and the tomato hangs in space free of struggle against gravity and all sucky forces. The tomato is still kinda cool mid-May Minnesota small but on TV the tomato plants were really big with lots of tomatoes so I’m optimistic.

Reminds me of Gateless Barrier 38:
Case: Wu-tsu said, “It is like a buffalo that passes through a latticed window (note the lattice in the background of the photo even). Its head, horns, and four legs all pass through. Why can’t its tail pass through as well?”

Comment: If you can get upside down with this one, discern it clearly, and give a turning word to it, then [that would be sweet].

Verse:
Passing through, falling in a ditch;
turning beyond, all is lost.
This tiny litle tail –
what a wonderful thing it is!
