Just Keep the One! To Ann Arbor and Back
This past weekend I went to the Buddhist Temple of Ann Arbor to malign the buddhadharma and am happy to report that the trip was quite successful on this and other counts.
Haju Sunim, the resident teacher (in orange above), picked me up at the airport and went to work on trying to teach me right away. She brought me to her car and opened her trunk. As I put the larger of my two bags in the trunk, Haju said, “Just keep the one!”
I immediately turned, got in the car and closed the door. How’d I do?
In all seriousness, I deeply enjoyed the workshop on Saturday and the opportunity to present my hinky view of Dogen’s hinky view on Mazu and Nanyue messing with the tile and mirror (i.e., seeking is making Buddha).

We got a surprise snowfall of about six inches through the afternoon which was really very lovely.

On Sunday, a whole bunch of people showed up for the “This Wheels on Fire: Can the Buddhadharma Douse the Flames” talk. I think they made a recording and will post it here when I can and pictures too.
