People Who Write Book Blurbs Say Such Nice Things

This is my first (and maybe last) book so maybe that makes the process especially sweet but I just recently received a blurb from Roshi Bodhin Kjolhede. Bodhin is one of Phillip Kapleau’s successors (you know, Three Pillars of Zen) and I’ve enormously liked the guy since I saw him sitting at a peace vigil at the UN Disarmament Conference in about 1982. “Now that’s how to do zazen,” I thought. In northern Minnesota we’d say he sits like a brick shit house.

Great letting-go-of-ego practice to read such praise of somebody who looked like me!

So here’s the blurb:

“In this homage to one of the leading teachers of Zen in the West, Port casts a discerning eye over the upsurging landscape of contemporary Zen and offers original commentary drawn from his well of Zen experience in both this country and Japan. He generously sprinkles personal stories and Zen lore throughout, laughing–sometimes through tears–at the perils and joys encountered by those who persevere along this ancient path. An insightful book that seasoned travelers as well as beginners will relish.”

I hope, dear reader, that you’ll read it too. You can pre-order by clicking the picture of the book over in the right side-bar.
