Unleash the Hounds! (Link Roundup)

Unleash the Hounds! (Link Roundup) January 1, 2012

There are lots of articles and essays of interest to modern Pagans out there, sometimes more than I can write about in-depth in any given week. So The Wild Hunt must unleash the hounds in order to round them all up.

That’s it for now! Happy 2012 everyone! Feel free to discuss any of these links in the comments, some of these I may expand into longer posts as needed.

About the Dark is Rising adaptation, I couldn’t agree more. They slaughtered it. It’s unrecognizable and awful. Christopher Eccleston couldn’t save it, and in fact, didn’t even come close.

It might be worse than what Syfy did with Earthsea. It’s hard to decide, they’re both so wretchedly bad.

Quote from the review section of ” Global Wizardry”

“This edited compendium of a 2008 think tank contains the work of eighteen authors. Edited by Peter Jones, On Global Wizardry examines pagan spiritual techniques from Brazil, Canada, China, Africa, the US, and from the ancient Gnostics and Canaanites. These diverse practices are all tied to the same religion: One-ism”

  • The Fundamentalist Christian narrative concerning modern Paganism and its supposed ‘ideology’ is a fascinating one, if only for its ironies and contradictions. For example:

We are an enemy worthy of spiritual warfare campaigns (viz. the New Apostolic Reformation), even though our beliefs and practices have no legitimacy, as they only go back to Victorian-era occultism (!)

We are a religion of materialism, greed and excess, and yet also manage to serve the ‘green dragon’ of environmentalism which demands austerity.

Our practices are psychologically and emotionally harmful, especially to vulnerable young people, who would be much better off with sexual abstinence, hero-worship of martyrs and asking God to forgive their sins.

We are execrated as a religion based on superstition and fear, by those who hope for eternal life and have a deep-seated horror of mortality, darkness and the cthonic.

We are foolish and deluded because we worship things that we can actually see and feel.

I examine these issues in greater detail in my book [plug!]:

I sincerely hope Janet Mefferd reads it – she’ll have hours of material to fulminate against if she does.

  • I wonder why they went with the title ‘Global Wizardry’? Was it inspired by Harry Potter… or maybe Oberon Zell…?

Dr. Peter Jones on Paganism: “The problem with worldviews, you see, is that they demand to be inscribed in public policy.”

The irony is killing me here.

  • btw.:, the conflation (confusion?) between Chronos and Kronos also appears in the several versions one of Goethe’s famous poems … most German versions use the term Chronos

Ms Merrferd , is a bit of a mess . Apon seeing and remembering the previos quotes from her i sent her a email. She denied the whole thing attributing it to the extreme right wing press . I sent her another email about her gay pagan comments , don’t think she’ll answer that one , beings we have her red handed on that one . Just another case of right wing Christian nonsense.i was abit surprised she took the time to write me back . Kilm
