It’s a Seder, Y’all

What happens when a New York Jew tries to  create a Passover Seder in the heart of the Bible belt?

In this hilarious post in Religious Dispatches, Dania Rajendra, a New York Jew, is in Jackson Mississippi for the Passover holiday where she tries to buy supplies for a Passover Seder dinner. At a wine store looking for wine, she’s shown bottles with labels that have pitchforks with the devil in the middle. Trying to find lamb, she can only find frozen lamb. The grocer, who doesn’t understand that the Seder is this week, says that he can get it next week. Asking for matzoh at a local chain, the young college kid asks, “What’s that.”   Another clerk pulls her aside and asks, “If I were to go to Israel, would they call me something else?”
