Why the Constitution Means A Lot To Me

Why the Constitution Means A Lot To Me February 11, 2012

Dr. Beckwith allows that this quote contained therein, choked him up,

“Our parents and grandparents did not come to these shores to help build America’s cities and towns, its infrastructure and institutions, its enterprise and culture, only to have their posterity stripped of their God given rights. All that has been built up over so many years in our Catholic institutions should not be taken away by the stroke of an administrator’s pen.”

Indeed, and very well said. You’ll want to read the whole thing.

I agree with those sentiments as well. And Joe Six-Pack, USMC has over a million more reasons to break out his hanky too. Like, for instance, remembering all of the fine folks who died serving and defending the freedoms our country has always stood for, so future generations could enjoy the God given freedoms the Constitution promises to uphold.

For some strange reason, probably having to do with thinking they are above fighting for freedom themselves, the Administration has lost sight of this fact. Here’s a taste of the numbers of dead and injured who served in the armed forces just since the year 2,000.

Global War on Terror
Total Servicemembers (Worldwide) (as of Dec 31, 2010) 1,429,367
Deployed to Iraq (Operation New Dawn) (as of Dec. 31, 2010) 85,600
Deployed to Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom)(as of Dec. 31, 2010) 103,700

Battle Deaths (as of May 12, 2011) 4,724
Other Deaths (In Theater) (as of May 12, 2011) 1,294
Non-mortal Woundings (as of May 12, 2011)

Talk about getting choked up. Consider the gravity of these sacrifices over at America’s Wars: U.S. Casualties and Veterans at Infoplease.com While you peruse the totals of dead and injured (just on our side), check out this video below of our neighbors who died defending the Constitution after swearing to give their all for the following oath,

The Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely; and without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter; So help me God.

Be careful your speakers don’t melt, because Neil and his boys are the best.garage.band.ever. But the lyrics fit todays situation, too. Neil Young is prophetic that way sometimes.
