On April 4th, in the year of Our Lord, 1968, at 6:01 PM, in my home state, Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed by a man named James Earl Ray. I was 4 1/2 years old. We as a nation lost a great man that day. In a way, we collectively killed a great man that day. He was martyred for the beliefs that we all knew were true, but which we didn’t want to believe, because to... Read more
The other day I shared an e-mail I received from a reader, and the follow-up response to it by “the Kid.” Today I’ll share another Catholic response from another young man, this time in similar format to the “Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus” video that sparked the response. I don’t know his name, so I call him “the Poet.” A.M.D.G., indeed. Only 245 views? Help make it go viral. Te Deum Laudamus Read more
I unwittingly came across one of the best Pro-Life articles I’ve ever read (via the mainstream media) in the latest on-line edition of Time magazine. The funny thing is, the author probably didn’t realize that is what he was writing about. But that’s the wonderful way unintended graces work themselves out. You write one thing, and I see another, which in a nutshell is why sola scriptura is nonsense (but that’s a post for another day). (more…) Read more

You jess have to be a... Read more
An e-mail popped into my box this morning from a reader. Hi there. I am a convert to Catholicism. I converted in 1996. In the last 2.5 years I have had a re-conversion of sorts. My family that I grew up in are Southern Baptists and are devout. They occasionally send me things I feel are a little passive aggressive in nature attacking the way I practice my faith. (rosary, daily mass, saints, etc) Here is the latest thing they... Read more

One of the best I’ve heard, anyway. You know, aside from saying “could you please turn off your cell phone during dinner? Thanks.” Do tell? Here you go. From the editors at The Week, How ‘The Phone Stack’ is Civilizing Dinners out with Friends Tired of cell phones interrupting every meal? A clever new game poses a solution. (more…) Read more
I have to admit that I enjoy movies that have vast hordes of extras in the cast who play zombies. I’ve had fun with zombies here on the blog recently when, inspired by the drop-dead apocalyptic day of reckoning that was expected last year failed to materialize. You know, because Christ said clearly that, But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (more…) Read more
