It’s been a long week, but I’m excited to be seeing Legacy Five in concert for the first time tonight! I will bring back the usual report. L5 boasts one of my favorite tenors (Gus Gaches) and one of my favorite personalities (Scott Fowler) in the business. Looking forward to a great show. Read more

Well, I tried and tried to embed this video, but it looks like I’ll need to consult the wordpress.com embed code gurus again because Godtube’s code is defying me. However, I strongly encourage my readers to hop over to this link to hear VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer’s take on this (awful) article. The topic is Christian music, specifically CCM. The author of this article lays out five reasons to “kill” it. In this 18-minute clip from his podcast, Vischer pretty... Read more

There’s a myth that’s circulating in the Church. It is old yet ever-new. I’m sure you’ve heard it. It goes something like this: “Conservatives and liberals in the Church need to respect each other, because they each get something right. Conservatives are more focused on abortion and protecting the sanctity of marriage and sexuality, which is good, but liberals are more focused on helping the poor and protecting the environment, which is also good. Everyone brings something to the table,... Read more

Perhaps this one should have been more properly titled “Monday Morning Humor (With a Stellar Bit of Music Thrown in For Good Measure).” Now that is a song that deserves a great intro. Read more

There are only a few seats left for the 2013 installment of the Gaither Songwriting Workshop. Further details are here. What struck me about this year’s lineup of writers is that it includes two CCM tunesmiths: Andrew Peterson and Nicole Nordeman. Most people wouldn’t think “Gaither” when you think of these two artists, but my guess is that Peterson was invited this year because the Isaacs recorded his song “Labor of Love” for their Christmas album the other year. I hope... Read more

An exchange with frequent commentator John Situmbeko in my post on Michael Buble (which has gotten an inordinate number of hits since I first posted it), seemed interesting enough for me to make it a post unto itself. John commented agreeing with my points and saying that he had been unimpressed by a Buble TV special with profanity in the bloopers. He then opined, “What then can be advised to Christians that are fans of such artists, despite knowing the... Read more

Inspired by some conversations with Michael Booth, I’ve been moved to reflect on how I use my own small platform to proclaim the good news of the gospel. It’s led me to the conclusion that while there’s nothing wrong with humor per se, perhaps devoting one post a week to something completely non-gospel-centric is too much. So I’ve decided to cancel Monday Morning Humor and replace it with a new feature: Monday Morning Devotional. May the new feature bless your... Read more

I hope the sun is shining brightly wherever you may be celebrating your Easter Morning. Sadly, for us it is a cloudy drizzle, (but we trust that the Easter bunny is equipped with a raincoat so that he can still deliver his wares). Rejoice and be glad! Christ is risen! Read more

As you will see, this is really a question and answer post in disguise. But instead of yammering on about the music, I will let the music (and the images) speak for themselves. If you can spare ten minutes, I believe they will speak to you as powerfully as they speak to me. Have a blessed Holy Saturday. Read more

[Note: Several people have pointed out that I was comparing apples and oranges to some extent by initially choosing a live performance by Franklin and a studio recording by Hollens. I’ve now additionally provided something from the studio by Franklin and something live by Hollens to make it optimally fair.] I don’t know how many ideas I’ll come up with for this series, but I’ve collected enough that I think it’ll work for a little while at least. Here’s the... Read more
