(Picture via Flickr)   I love food. When I turn sideways you can see that love on full display. But I don’t just like eating and cooking food. I love what food can do. It brings us together like almost nothing else can. I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that food can change the world, or at least the way we look at it and interact with it. Jesus seemed to recognize this, making the sharing of a... Read more

This is part two of a post I shared on Friday about how not to comment on a blog. Since Christian blogging is a crazy beast of its own, I’ve come up with some specific guidelines for how not to look like a complete jerk or crazy person while commenting on a Christian blog. And I made sure to come up 7 tips, cause you know, Bible numbers and stuff. Anyway, here they are, once again in no particular order.... Read more

I think we’d all agree that leaving comments on the internet has gotten more than a bit out of control. Which is why with the aid of some blogger friends of mine I’ve put together a little guide of sorts for how not to comment on a blog post if human decency and maintaining your personal dignity are things that are important to you. This isn’t intended as a comprehensive guide and it’s not in any particular order, but it... Read more

The former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has long been one of my theological heroes. This is but one of the many reasons why. ‘Persecuted’ British Christians need to ‘grow up’, says former Archbishop Rowan Williams By Hannah Furness, The Telegraph Lord Williams said religious believers should be wary of complaining about their treatment in the Western world, with those claiming they are “persecuted” making him “very uneasy”. He added the level of “not being taken very seriously” or “being... Read more

I have to be honest. When my friend first showed me the website for The Great Cross Alliance I thought it was a parody. I mean, seriously, if someone showed you this picture and said a 3,000 ft long, nearly 2,000 ft wide, and almost 200 ft high cross was going to be built in the middle of the Nevada desert would you believe them? Ok, it is America and it is Nevada and stranger things have happened out in... Read more

My monthly faith and politics column is up today over at A Deeper Story. Obviously, politics and faith can make for a messy conversation. So, most of the time we like to address the really tough issues separately. Well, this month I threw caution to the wind and decided to discuss some of the most contentious political issues of our all day in one post. Mostly because I figured why have a title that rolls off the tongue when you... Read more

I came across a video in my YouTube feed entitled “Hagee: Rock Music Is ‘Satanic Cyanide’ The Should Be Taken Outside And Burned.” With a title like that how do you not watch the video? So I did and, yes, mega-church mega-conservative mega-fundie pastor John Hagee did go old school and denounce rock music as satanic cyanide. But that wasn’t was really caught my attention. What I found most interesting in this admittedly brief clip is what Hagee accidentally said.... Read more

(Photo courtesy of Photonopticum) This is the thirteenth part of a series I’m calling Blogmatics. It’s an attempt on my part to lay out as best I can in as brief a manner as I can all the theological assumptions behind my blog posts. This post is adopted for two previous posts I have written on hell   The story of Abraham is a curious one. Though he was called out by God to enter into a special covenant that... Read more

As I’m always welcoming new people to the blog I sometimes like to revisit an old post or two that sparked a good conversation, but may have been missed by those who weren’t around when it was originally posted. In light of the interest in my recent posts Blogmatics: The Cost Of Discipleship and Why Are Christians So Bad At Handling Criticism?, I thought this could a good contribution to the conversation and themes that underlie both of those posts.... Read more

Saw this on my way to work this morning. I’m guessing the pastor’s a Red Sox fan. Or maybe just a bitter Yankees fan. Then again, maybe he just recognizes the fact that A-Rod is a terrible person. Either way, I thought it was pretty funny. Read more
