It used to be that “the devil made me do it.” Now it appears the devil has lost his job. God, it seems, is now in the business of making people do some not so wonderful things. In an interview that aired recently on Fox News accused murder George Zimmerman told Sean Hannity that Treyvon’s tragic death was, in fact, “all God’s plan.” In other words, according to Zimmerman, God wanted Treyvon dead. He just pulled the trigger.... Read more

Looks like a Bin Laden crab to me. So-Called ‘Jesus Crab’ Looks Exactly Like Osama bin Laden By Caity Weaver, Gawker Last weekend, a family in Washington state captured this crab whose markings 100% resemble a sharpie drawing of former head of al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden. This image was taken from a video the family shot as they unloaded a pot of crab into their boat. The radio station that first received the hot tip about the... Read more

Gospel Coalition member Jared Wilson has created quite the stir today with this post about male and female roles in human sexuality. Not surprisingly, and rightfully so, Rachel Held Evans has responded with just outrage and Scott McKnight has called for The Gospel Coalition to pull down the post. (For what it’s worth I second that call.) Wilson, for his part, has spent the better part of the day attempting to wiggle out of what was, at best,... Read more

Supposedly this is a new Rob Bell video that has been put out in conjunction with the release of the paperback version of Love Wins. Supposedly the guy in this video is Rob Bell himself. But I’m not buying it. This guy isn’t wearing glasses and as we all know, Rob Bell isn’t Rob Bell without his glasses. The guy in the Nooma videos was Superman. This guy is just Clark Kent. Alas, I guess I will have to accept... Read more

I think we’ve all been a bit torn at some point or another about our churches selling things. Like the author of this article says, it tends to almost immediately bring up that iconic image of Jesus chasing out the moneychangers in the temple. I’m sure there are probably some situations in which it’s ok for churches to sell things, particularly as part of some sort of fundraiser. That being said, I don’t think there’s ever a situation where it’s... Read more

(via) At the end of The Wizard of Oz, Dorthy’s dog Toto pulls back a curtain to reveal that the great and powerful Oz isn’t quite so great and powerful. After The New York Times article “Can Liberal Christianity Be Saved?”, it made me wonder if the same thing is happening to so-called “liberal” or “progressive” Christianity. (Hereafter, and though I hate labels, I will use the word “progressive” rather than “liberal” as I think it more acurractely... Read more

Apparently LifeWay Research and the North American Mission Board are collaborating on something called “Back to Church Sunday”, which is scheduled for September 16th. This collaborative effort is exactly what it sounds like, an attempt to get that segment of the population which claims to believe in God, but doesn’t attend church on a regular basis, to come “back to church.” Nothing wrong with that. Inviting people to church is a great thing to do. That being said,... Read more
