Since I’m always welcoming new people to the blog I sometimes like to revisit an old post or two that sparked a good conversation, but may have been missed by those who weren’t around when it was originally posted. In light of John Piper’s unintentional endorsement of female preachers yesterday, I thought it would be a good time to dig this post out of the archives and share it again.   How well do you remember the Easter story? Or perhaps I... Read more

I don’t think I can think of a better snapshot of the past year in the life of American Christianity than Alternative Facts beating out Jesus. And they didn’t just beat Jesus. They thumped him. Their victory was so dominant, Jesus the Refugee’s very existence in the matchup was all but irrelevant in the face of such a powerful force. Kind of like real life. Sigh… Congratulations are due to Serena Severance for a commanding victory in the American Jesus Madness... Read more

Welcome once again to the end of all things. The 2017 American Jesus Madness championship. It years past, “the end of all things” has been obvious hyperbole, but given who’s currently occupying the White House, we may have indeed reached the end of all things. Hopefully not, but the mere fact that it’s a possibility is utterly terryifying. Anywho, until Armageddon does arrive, it’s time to choose a champion!! One small difference you’ll notice from previous rounds: a running tally... Read more

I’m not sure I could think of a championship matchup more representative of the past year than this one. It’s going to be a fun final battle to watch. Or it would be fun if it also wasn’t so depressingly real. Either way, check out the results below then head on back at 9AM to choose the 2017 American Jesus Madness champion!!   4 HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE VOTES But The Supreme Court… – 48%       Jesus The... Read more

Welcome to the Apocalypse!! Hopefully it’s a lot more fun than Hal Lindsey led you to believe. Though, fair warning: if you think too much about these last matchups and remember they’re actually real world conflicts things could get a bit depressing. To ward off any bad juju, just do what any good true patriot would and don’t think about the consequences. Just vote! And on that uplifting note, here once again are a few reminders about voting… You can vote on each... Read more

Every time I put a bracket together, I try to strategize beyond the first round matchups in hopes that subsequent matchups will still make some sort of sense. In the past, this has been really difficult because there are only so many current stories/issues/etc. going on in a given year and they’re often not directly related. However, it goes without saying the past year in both American and American Christian history has been…interesting. As a result, many of this year’s... Read more

It’s time for the Exquisite 8 round. Which may not sound all that consequential, but remember: you’re choosing who competes in the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse round. So, really the end of the world is in your hands. But no pressure. Once again, here are a few reminders about voting… You can vote on each matchup or just the ones you like. Again, it’s totally up to you. Voting is unlimited. So, vote now and vote often. But remember that... Read more

After a ton of razor thin victories in the first round, the Salacious 16 saw the contenders start to separate themselves from the pretenders. We also witnessed the rise of the tournament’s Cinderfella – Chance the Rapper. But will Chance has a brutal matchup in the Exquisite 8 against eternal favorite Jesus the Refugee? As always that and every other matchup is up to you. So, check out the results below then come back at 9AM CST to start voting for... Read more

Welcome to the Salacious 16 round where everything gets a little more…salaciousier. Once again, here are a few reminders about voting… You can vote on each matchup or just the ones you like. Again, it’s totally up to you. Voting is unlimited. So, vote now and vote often. But remember that Poll Daddy may send you to a “cool off period” after a bunch of votes in row. No worries, though. Just give it a couple of minutes and you’ll be... Read more

There are usually one or two matchups each round that come down to the wire, but I can’t remember so many razor thin victories in the first round. I can’t tell you exactly why we had so many this year. Maybe it was tougher matchups, maybe it was having to choose between the lesser of two evils, or maybe it was something else entirely. What I can tell you is Donald Trump was destroyed in the 1st round and that’s a victory... Read more
