"Confused Confession"
Sometimes people do not quite understand the meanings of the various sins. Occasionally this leads to people not recognizing the subtle manifestations of sin. Other times, the actual name of the sin gets confused. For some of these Catholics, the sin of “pride” can become “pried.” So, rather than confessing that you spent most of Sunday Mass giving your brother-in-law significant looks because the first reading clearly applied to him, you shamefacedly tell the priest that you nosed into your neighbor’s business.
Adults come to confession like this more often than most would think, but children are even more likely to be the clueless sinner. For pre-pubescent children, “lust” may not be a term they are familiar with yet. As such, it can become “lost” and leave them confessing that they cannot seem to find their way around their new school instead of mentioning that puberty is starting to plant all sorts of interesting thoughts in their heads.
