Six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. They gave a dinner for him there, and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at table with him.
Mary took a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and dried them with her hair; the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil (Jn. 12:1-3).
We have come full circle, although to a greater height than we began. This very simple mention speaks volumes of the difference between the first time we saw Martha and now.
"Martha served."
That is all we need know. There is no complaint or comparison. Mary serves Jesus in her way while Martha serves him in hers. Together they complement each other as both have chosen the better part.
It is a beautiful end to a beautiful journey of faith.
