The Soul’s Journey in the Aftermath of the Orlando Massacre

The Soul’s Journey in the Aftermath of the Orlando Massacre June 14, 2016

orlandoIn what is being called the worst terrorist attack since September 11th, early Sunday morning in Orlando, Florida over fifty souls were murdered and many more injured, still clinging to life.  Where it happened is meaningless. Who did it is just as meaningless and how the murderer did it meaningless as well. The details seem to complicate the event. Scan through social media or turn on the news and you will likely see hate being spewed and blame pointed, and that is often exactly what fear does. That is exactly what a killer wants to happen. Negative energy feeds more negative energy. The cycle continues until it’s brushed under the rug, but still it remains just invisible – it feeds more of the same seen or unseen. And on and on and on it continues.

Everyone has an opinion on how it could’ve been different. Or how it might be different, but if you really listen to the suggestions it is simply led with anger and revenge. And the cycle continues, but it doesn’t have to.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I often speak of how much I love my job. Although I love helping others, the biggest reason I love it is because as I help make the connections to the other side, the other side has no prejudice. Those on the other side don’t care how much money you have. They don’t care about color of the skin, religious preferences, or whether you’re straight or gay. There aren’t labels like we have here. You can’t hide your true self on the other side. Your soul and spirit is transparent and alive, more alive than we are here on the earth. The soul, which means life and the spirit, the true core of who you are, is the center of spiritual and emotional experiences and all it wants is to feed itself with love.

Fifty-something beautiful beings were stolen from this physical existence a couple days ago. Many lives are taken at the hands of awful human beings every single day. I don’t necessarily believe that everything happens for a reason. I don’t believe we all have an invisible expiration date that hovers above our head and that there is always a divine plan. I do believe that there is evil out there who wants to extinguish loving souls in order create fear, impatience, and stress and feed the negative energy and the cycle will continue if we continue to allow that to happen. That evil will try with any means – guns or no guns. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Where’s there’s hate there will be more. On the other side of that is is love and where there’s love there is more love.

I saw someone comment on a post saying to stop with the prayers, the love, and the white light. Action needed to be taken. Blood needed to be spilled. If that’s what you think then you are simply feeding into negative. Action is good, but in order to create peace you have to find understanding even with the enemy. Hate only creates more hate, but love (albeit hard to do in these difficult situations) begins to shift the negative energy, slowly neutralizing it and replacing it with the opposite. Violence against violence super charges the energy to more of the negative.

As fifty plus souls make their way to the other side, I send my love to them for their journey. I send love to their family and friends who will work long and hard on finding understanding and maybe even forgiveness. I also send love to the world. We each have an ability to shine our light into the darkness and dismiss the shadows. It’s easy to get caught up in the anger of the situation, but instead of spreading hate, become a helper.

“Often, problems are knots with many strands, and looking at those strands can make a problem seem different.”

Fred Rogers
