To the CBA: Let’s adopt some standards

To the CBA: Let’s adopt some standards August 25, 2009

This week Jay Bakker brought it to my attention that the “Association for Christian Retail” has not adopted standards to help ensure that none of their products are made by slaves or exploited and abused workers. I’d really like to see this change. There have been abuses in the past that are pretty horrific for example: “In 2007, a case of crucifixes purchased by St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York were traced back to a factory in China where girls as young as 15 were forced to work up to 19-hour days, seven days a week to manufacture the religious items”. (From Change.org)
This is not the first example of this kind of unethical work environment and it won’t be the last unless we really ask our fellow believers to take a stand and examine more than the price of something when they buy it.
