Singer and Jesus on Health Care

Singer and Jesus on Health Care July 16, 2009

Peter Singer brings his usual number-crunching rationality and hardcore commonsense to the health care debate, arguing for: “free national health insurance with optional private insurance, a.k.a. ‘Medicare for All.’ In 2008 Gallup reported 73% of Canadians and Brits have confidence in health care in their country. In the U.S., despite spending much more, per person, on health care, the figure is only 56 percent.”

From another perspective, John 15:13 has an indication of how Jesus might respond to those who resist universal health care in order to selfishly preserve their health care privilege: “Greater love hath no one than this, that one lays down one’s life for one’s friends.”
