Upcoming Academic Meeting on Ancient Near East, Religion, Etc., at BYU

This year’s joint meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion and the American Schools of Oriental Research for the Rocky Mountain-Great Plains region will be held 23-24 March 2012 (i.e., this coming Friday and Saturday) and will be hosted on campus by Brigham Young University.  Dr. Dan Belnap, assistant professor of Ancient Scripture and of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at BYU, is serving as the vice-president of the region this year and is in charge of this regional meeting.

Although this is a geographically large region that has a relatively small number of institutions offering graduate degrees in Ancient Near Eastern and Religious Studies, the program for this year’s meeting includes a number of interesting presentations.  Additionally, given the smaller size of this conference, there will be plenty of opportunity to interact with guests.

The public are invited to attend, but it is necessary to register at this web address:

The most current program for the meetings this coming Friday and Saturday can be found here.

In addition to the regular sessions (which include a number of presenters from BYU), please note the three plenary addresses, given (1) Friday after lunch, (2) Friday at 4:30 PM, and (3) Saturday after lunch.

If you have questions, you may contact Dan Belnap, either at dan_belnap@byu.edu or at 801-422-8670.
