“Revisiting the Forgotten Voices of Weeping in Moses 7″

I'm still observing my temporary moratorium on images. Too much frustration, too little time.I'm very happy to announce that Interpreter: A Journal of Mormon Scripture continues its steady forward progress.  The new entry today -- we've managed, thus far, to post an article or a review every Friday since our launch in early August -- is "Revisiting the Forgotten Voices of Weeping in Moses 7: A Comparison with Ancient Texts," by Jeffrey M. Bradshaw (Ph.D., University of … [Read more...]

“Banishing the Cross: The Emergence of a Mormon Taboo”

No image here (which is rather ironic for a post about iconography)   A potentially interesting new book is out, from Michael Reed:  Banishing the Cross: The Emergence of a Mormon Taboo. Apparently from the jacket cover:  "Michael Reed’s invaluable study shines new light on Mormons’ complex and ambiguous relationship with the cross. Reed’s research, the most exhaustive ever undertaken on this subject, should help other Christians understand the historic, c … [Read more...]

Is Barack Hussein Obama Really a Muslim? (Part Two)

For all my Muslim friends

A couple of days ago, responding to literally thousands of (imagined) requests, I answered the question "Is Barack Hussein Obama really a Muslim?" Now, I provide more commentary on the matter: If he were, I wouldn't care. (Apart -- of course -- from the clearly implied deception on his part, if he were but had hidden it.)   … [Read more...]

Benghazi: Far Worse Than Even I Had Thought

A photo could hardly do this justice. Besides, posting an image would be too risky. And I don't have the patience right now.   The disclosures about the murderous attacks in Benghazi continue to grow more and more appalling: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/10/26/cia-operators-were-denied-request-for-help-during-benghazi-attack-sources-say/ I become literally sick to my stomach when I consider the plight of these heroic Americans, … [Read more...]

“Don’t Blame Religion for the World’s Ills”

Affix completely random image here.   This morning's Dan Peterson column in the Deseret News: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765613632/Dont-blame-religion-for-worlds-ills.html   … [Read more...]

Evil Spirits in My Computer

No photo here. It's safer this way. Just imagine something. Something relevant. Or not.  A note on the illustrations on my blog: I am -- let's be totally straightforward about this -- a computer illiterate.  I have a hard time turning my computer on.  I can move a cursor and click on a mouse, but what happens thereafter is absolutely mystifying to me.  I think there are little jinn inside; most of the time they're well disposed toward me, but occasionally, and u … [Read more...]

Major Nidal Hasan, Just Your Typical Deranged Postal Worker or Disgruntled Former Employee

U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan

This is, I'm inclined to agree, related to the Benghazi cover-up. The Obama administration/campaign narrative has been "GM is alive, and Osama is dead," with the implication that, Osama b. Laden being dead, the battle against al-Qa’ida and terrorism is essentially over.  There's nothing to see here.  They're on the run.  Obama triumphans.  (The specious claim about General Motors is a subject for another time.) So when things h … [Read more...]

New Scripture Roundtable on Interpreter

The Interpreter Foundation has posted its fourth Scripture Roundtable discussion -- featuring Brant Gardner (Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA), Andrew Smith (Claremont, California, USA), and Robert Boylan (Dublin, Ireland) -- this time on 3 Nephi 16, 20-21: http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/category/scripture-roundtable/ Unfortunately, there is a bit of a sound issue with Robert Boylan's remarks.  (We're still learning how best to do these, and working the bugs … [Read more...]
