Professor Shinji Takagi

I’m pleased to announce a new entry on Mormon Scholars Testify — from Professor Shinji Takagi, who teaches economics at Osaka University in Japan.

I was Dr. Takagi’s home teacher in Annandale, Virginia when he was at the International Monetary Fund the first time and I had just competed three years in Tokyo with the Air Force JAG Corps. Since then he has visited us when we lived in California, Utah and Idaho. He was the bishop of the Kobe Japan ward when the city was hit by a massive earthquake.

Dr. Takagi has also researched and written several articles about the history of the LDS Church in Japan, most published in BYU Studies, including a review of the reaction in the Japanese newspapers to the early LDS missionary efforts in Japan led by Heber J. Grant. He has participated in updating the Japanese version of the Book of Mormon so it is more understandable to modern Japanese readers.
