I’m not – to put it mildly — an uncritical fan of Israel, and my opinions of Benjamin Netanyahu are decidedly mixed.  (Superb on domestic economics, so far as I can tell.  Less sympathetic to Palestinian concerns than I would prefer.  Womanizer.)


But the brilliant 1976 Israeli raid on Entebbe, in which the prime minister’s brother Yonatan died heroically, was entirely justified, and I find this 1975 letter from “Yoni” Netanyahu to his girlfriend quite moving:
