An Easter Greeting

Light piercing the darkness

Χριστός ἀνέστη!

Ἀληθῶς ἀνέστη!

Christ is risen!  Truly, he is risen!

Χριστός ανέστη εκ νεκρών,

θανάτω θάνατον πατήσας,

και τοις εν τοις μνήμασι,

ζωὴν χαρισάμενος!

Christ is risen from the dead,

Trampling death by death

And bestowing life upon

Those in the tombs.

καλό Πάσχα!

Happy Easter!

This is a part of our Eastern Orthodox divine liturgy. We will sing it, many times at each service between Pascha (Easter) on May 5, and Ascension (10 days before Pentecost).

I hope you didn’t mind my translation of it.
