A note from a friend

I received the following brief email this morning, presumably referring to a ward Fourth of July breakfast or some such thing:

Yesterday at the neighborhood party several ordinary members of the church came up to me to ask me about what they have heard is an exodus of people from the church because of material on the internet. Too bad there isn’t some organization at BYU that could help with that problem.

Indeed.  It’s too bad.

If memory serves, there was once such a group, created by generous donations of time, effort, and money from many people over more than  three decades.

In the meantime, such underfunded private organizations as FairMormon and The Interpreter Foundation are trying to fill the vacuum.
