Robert George’s commencement remarks at BYU April 24, 2015

Obviously, I wasn’t there.

 

I regret that.

 

But, thanks to Nathaniel Hancock, I’ve now read the speech that Princeton’s heroic and invaluable Robert George delivered during BYU’s very recent commencement exercises:

I’m glad that he said what he said, and that he said it at BYU at this particular time.

 

I had long imagined that BYU was immune to the drift that had occurred at other schools.  However, I now realize that we’re vulnerable, too, and that real effort and hard decisions are required to maintain the University’s divine mandate.  In some cases, misguided decisions have been made, or permitted, that will need to be undone.

 

But the very fact that Professor George was invited to BYU — and that he has such close ties to leaders of the Church and the University — offers clear reason for optimism.

 

I commend his relatively brief speech to your notice.
