Do any of the rest of you feel this way?  I surely do:

Passing by some buildings as the University of Göttingen yesterday, we saw a great many banners expressing leftist and, in some cases, very radical leftist views.  We didn’t see a single one expressing a dissenting opinion.

That didn’t surprise me a whole lot, really.

But I was struck by one banner, that allowed three boxes, of which, apparently, readers were to check just one.  “Male?” asked the first one.  “Female?” asked the second one.  “F— you!” read the third one, which had, helpfully, already been checked on our behalf.  “Love,” the banner concluded, “recognizes no differences.”

It reminds me a bit of Newspeak, which, in Orwell’s Oceania, was designed to prevent distinctions and, thus, to think.  “War is peace.”  “Freedom is slavery.”

It seems, in my judgment, that some forms of radical leftist utopian thought have set out to erase some of the most basic, fundamental (and, I think, intractable) differences known to humanity.

It won’t work.  But in the meantime, I’m afraid, it’s going to do a very great deal of damage.
