Please don’t forget about ISIS

Please don’t forget about ISIS July 2, 2015

A firework finale
Please be safe this weekend.

There is a horrific evil loose in the world, and it’s metastasizing rapidly:

64 soldiers killed in ISIS attack on Egyptian Army’s Sinai checkpoints

I fear that we may be growing accustomed to such reports, but we shouldn’t be:

74 children executed for ‘crimes’ that include failure to fast

There is also unusual concern — apparently grounded in actual data — about a possible terror attack of some sort on American soil in connection with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which is currently underway, and with the celebration of American Independence Day on the Fourth of July.

I hope that nothing will happen.  I hope there’s nothing to such concerns.  But I also hope that people will be vigilant, aware, and careful.

Such an attack could come in any form.  It could be a very spectacular Big Thing, in the style of al-Qa‘ida.  Or, and this is even harder to defend against, it could be one or more “lone wolf” attacks by ISIS-inspired zealots.

There is a virtual infinity of “soft targets” across the United States.  Law enforcement officials cannot protect all of them.

Please be safe.
