An Appeal to the Voters of New Hampshire

It’s overwhelmingly likely that The Donald will win the Republican primary in New Hampshire.  But Republican and independent voters there have the glorious opportunity to finish off his non-substantive and irritating campaign.  Will they seize their chance?  Will they make the nation proud?

If Mr. Trump were to come in second there next week, it would seriously if not fatally damage his quest for the presidency.  What a wonderful thought!  His appeal is predicated to a remarkable degree on the notion that he’s a “winner.”  (Not, despite recent comments from him, a “whiner.”)  But he lost in Iowa, and a second loss in New Hampshire would be difficult to shrug off.  He would be, in his own ever-charming terms, a “loser.”

As for the other race — the one between Clinton Inc. and the insurgent Comrade Bernie — Democrats are trying to decide which of the candidates will most faithfully and zealously advance their preference for the new state slogan of New Hampshire, which appears to be “Live for free or die!”

I’m not sure that I really care which one of them wins.  I probably prefer the 74-year-old Vermont socialist, for sheer entertainment value.  But it’s not a strong preference.  Of course, my fervent desire is that both fall short of the White House.  In the meantime, though?  Let the show continue!
