“While Mormons nationally stuck with Trump, in Utah he lagged”

“While Mormons nationally stuck with Trump, in Utah he lagged” November 14, 2016

Much was written before the 2016 presidential election about Mormon resistance to Mr. Donald J. Trump and to Trumpism, and a fair amount has been written afterward — some of it quite critical of the Latter-day Saints, who are said (since Utah eventually went quite solidly for Mr. Trump) to have proven themselves “hypocrites,” to have “sold out,” to have endorsed racism and misogyny and religious bigotry, and so forth.

As some may have noticed, I opposed both Trumpism and Mr. Trump.  I voted against him.  And I was disappointed that Utah gave its six electoral votes to a man that I still consider plainly unfit for the White House.

That said, though, I think it quite wrong to blast Utahns and Mormons for having, in the end, opted to hold their noses and, regretfully, to endorse Mr. Trump’s acquisition of the presidency.

And I’ve been posting comments on that topic here since election day last week.

Here’s another article that supports my point of view on the matter:
