Human evolution culminated in Louis IV of France — the “Sun King” or “Le Roi Soleil” — whose humble cottage of Versailles is about twenty minutes by foot from where I’m writing. Louis XIV makes me wonder whether our evolution was really worthwhile.  (Wikimedia Commons)

 

A new discovery suggests that, contrary to common notions, Africa isn’t the evolutionary home of humankind:

 

“Scientists find 7.2-million-year-old pre-human remains in the Balkans”

 

However, one scientist cautions that speculations based upon the new discovery should be . . . well, cautious:

 

“Did Humans Evolve in Europe? A New Discovery Fuels the Debate.”
