Quote of the day

“Let the wild rumpus start!”

– Maurice Sendak, “Where the Wild Things Are”

The celebrated author died today after a stroke.  He was 83.  RIP.

  1. OMG, I just read that book to my son the other day. He loves it. I love it. It was my favorite book from childhood. I wonder what year he wrote it. Yes, may he rest in peace.

  2. He wrote it in 1963.

  3. Actually, he published it in 1963. I don’t know when he wrote it. It won the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Most Distinguished Picture Book for Children.

  4. Barbara P says:

My children love it still and they are young adults. I have wonderful memories of reading this story aloud to them when they were young.

  5. pagansister says:

May he rest in peace. He left a great legacy with his books. :o)

  6. There is a wonderful tribute to him in the Washington Post today (5/9/12). To all the gay bashers here, the author was gay, and the Post pointed out that he was in a committed relationship for many decades.

  7. pagansister says:

Drake, NPR mentioned in their reporting of his death that he was a gay, Jewish man, and I think mentioned he was in a committed relationship. Many, many creative human beings, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, have been gay. This world would be minus a lot of beautiful art, music, plays, books etc. if it weren’t for those who happen to be gay as well as very, very creative. :o)
