Sadhguru Jaggi on What India is and What it needs

What is India?  And, what does it need?  We have heard politicians and “intellectuals”, think tanks and analysts.  But except for high sounding gibberish, we hardly get much.  Here is a take by a Spiritual Master, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, with a great clarity of perception.  Every word is worth listening.  He is speaking in a Public function (Chhatra Sansad) organized by a Government agency.  But, when it comes to laying things out the way they are, he doesn’t flinch from speaking out on things the way they are.

    Interesting speech
If someone can speak good English and talk forcefully, does he become Great ? I wonder – There are factual errors – There is basic flaw in the entire argument
India is known as Bharat – Why ? – Rig Veda is a great book of knowledge – It deals with prayers and hymns – The only historical event Rig Veda talks about is in the 7th mandala , about a great war between people of the Bharata tribe ( also called Trtsu tribe ) and ten other tribes – Bharat tribe was led by Sudasa and their Guru was Vashista – After this victory Bharata tribe further consolidated their position by defeating a chief called Bheda on Yamuna and thus controlled large area of saptasindhu – The greatness of Bharata tribe lay in the fact they gave importance to the teachings of other tribes and included their main teachings in Rig Veda – Vishvamitra was one such Guru – This all inclusiveness gave the name Bharatvarsha to this land and now it is known as Bharat
RA means Sun in Egyptian Civilization – We have heard Ravi in Sanskrit but Ra stands for Sun in Sanskrit is difficult to digest
After covering what we normally refer to as Maslow’s Pyramid of needs in modern psychology , he talks about freedom as the highest need – There is nothing new in this statement
Does FREEDOM not include FREEDOM FROM BELIEFS ?
If so where does the concept of Sadguru, Shivling, Sadhana, Ashram stand ?
It is obvious that Mr Jagannath Vasudevan gives long, winding talk about saying something different, new but actually uses the same symbols of old religion. I do not know what is new in his teaching. Only the style is diffrent

There is also a question of the assets Mr Vasudevan has acquired. Are his own disciples FREE ? I do not think so

Mr. Pethe – there were countless kings and tribes and greats who ruled and won. But why Bharat tribe? There are words and names and then there are certain words that become more important than others. There has a reason why certain words, certain Mantras and certain sounds have been elevated in the Ancient Indian tradition. The primacy of the word Bharat comes from a certain important of that word and its meaning itself. Otherwise the country could have been known by any other name as well.

We have heard Ravi in Sanskrit but Ra stands for Sun in Sanskrit is difficult to digest
:) But Ravi DOES mean Sun, doesn’t it? The root word Ra is for Heat and Light. WHat is difficult to digest, unless you have had other meals which have disturbed your digestion.

After covering what we normally refer to as Maslow’s Pyramid of needs in modern psychology , he talks about freedom as the highest need – There is nothing new in this statement

If something that isn’t new to you, you haven’t been able to work on, and make it your experience, then you should have a little patience with what is being said. Freedom in the SPiritual terms is a more fundamental freedom than Maslows or Western philosophers have ever discussed.

Does FREEDOM not include FREEDOM FROM BELIEFS ? If so where does the concept of Sadguru, Shivling, Sadhana, Ashram stand ?

I don’t get you here? What is difficult to understand? Sadhguru is a person – a Guru – he is not a “Belief”. Maybe you have mixed your physical world with your mental concepts, but believe me there is no need to BELIEVE in an Ashram.. you can actually GO AND LIVE there!!

It is obvious that Mr Jagannath Vasudevan gives long, winding talk about saying something different, new but actually uses the same symbols of old religion. I do not know what is new in his teaching. Only the style is diffrent.

If he just uses what is already there, and since you have enough of knowledge of Vedas and other stuff, what in the world stops YOU to gather some disciples of your own and do it? Ask any disciple and s/he will tell you that what is being offered outside of the words is critical to the growth.

And, it would probably be better if you stop making judgments of people frolicking in the sea, while standing on the shore. First, you have no freaking idea what the Sea feels like.. second, you have no idea of its depth from the shore.

So, why not stop making mental calculations if the disciples are “free” or not, when you have no idea of what freedom means yourself. If reading a few books could give freedom, then the Rishis of India didn’t need to have any Ashrams and go through teaching their disciples – they could very well have started printing presses and gone about printing books. That would have been SO MUCH EASIER!

I do not believe Maslow said or meant freedom at the top of his Pyramid. It is something like deep internal satisfaction with all your material and other achievements. He called it self actualization. Yes, you can call it freedom because there is nothing more you like to achieve This hypothetical state is rarely ever reached because there is always something there for you to go after. One is rarely ever satisfied because greed and power are limitless. Freedom Sadguru is talking about is not the same.
If Pethe has any information about Sadguru’s assets he should tell us. I see no point in making this vague comment about it.

      Totally agree with you, Morris.
